5 Tips Creating a Magical Christmas with Items you Have on Hand.

Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year. Creating memories with my little ones as we prepare the house with all the holiday décor and traditions. Since I was a little girl I remember begging my mom to please take out all the Christmas décor.  When we went to the stores during Christmas time I would suggest how we should decorate our home for the holidays. I have always had an eye for design.  We didn’t always have big budgets to have our house fully decked in Christmas décor but at a young age, I seemed to be able to make things feel warm and magical with the thing we did have. I believe it’s important to work with what you have and with a little help you can have your home feeling so warm and magical for the holidays.  I will be sharing 5 simple tips on how to create a magical Christmas.

  • Making a cheap tree feeling magical with natural pieces.  I got this tree 5 years ago for $50. This coming year I did get a new one but for those previous 5 years, I used this tree I got from Wal-Mart on sale.  We live around many different farms and during the fall season, we get cotton.  I asked a farmer if I could pick some for décor purposes. I applied it threw out my tree to make it feel full.  I added a couple ornaments to add sparkle and shine. Very simple and easy but still super pretty. It’s one of my favorite trees I have decorated.
  • Wrapping gifts with brown paper. I did a little DIY with brown paper and added some paint and ribbon. You can have your little ones help you out for a fun Christmas project. I got creative and made some with polka dots and abstract by running my paintbrush back and forth. I bought the gift tags from the dollar store to add more of a special touch.
  • Adding natural pieces threw out the house. The leftover cotton I had leftover I added to some vases I had. You can also add it to your gifts for a little extra touch. You don’t just have to use cotton you can use fresh rosemary, pampas leaves, eucalyptus. Get creative!
  • Christmas scents. During this time of year, I think of the wonderful smell of cinnamon simmering. Add a couple of fresh cinnamon sticks or whatever you have on hand such as fresh orange slices, rosemary, apples, and essential oils. Add the ingredients to a pot and bring it boil, and reduce heat to low so it can simmer on your stovetop threw out the day. You can keep adding water threw out the day. When you or your guests walk into your home it will give it such a warm and cozy feeling. Making you want to cuddle on your couch with a warm cup of tea.
  • Finding joy in it all. Just enjoy the process. Things don’t have to be perfect for you to enjoy this time of year. We sometimes get stuck comparing our homes with others that we forget the importance of the time a year. It’s a beautiful time to enjoy family friends within the walls of our homes.

I hope you were able to receive some inspiration and able to apply it to your home. Christmas time is a cozy time to be able to spend it with our families within the walls of our homes. Enjoy the process and make beautiful memories. Merry Christmas Friends!
